Owen Watkins
oboe, bassoon, recorder
Owen has performed with many period instrument ensembles in the USA including Boston Camerata, Boston Baroque, the Handel and Haydn Society, and the Washington Bach Consort. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium, Owen also studied at Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and Boston University where he graduated with a masters degree in Historical Performance on baroque oboe and recorder. In conjunction with a performing career Owen worked as an instrument builder for eight years making recorders at von Huene Workshop in Boston and collaborated with Joel Robinson making clarinets and basset horn in NYC. During 2014-15 Owen was woodturner at Morgan recorders in Daylesford Victoria before working for five years as an instrument technician at Sax and Woodwind in Sydney. Owen currently runs his own workshop in Dover NH where he repairs antique and modern woodwinds and makes baroque oboes based on an original instrument by I W Kenigsperger in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
