Brian Kay

Trombonist Brian Kay performs on modern and period instruments. On period instruments, he has performed with Boston Baroque, Boston Camerata, Handel and Haydn Society, New York Collegium, Aston Magna, Renaissonics, and the New England Waites. He can be heard on recordings with Boston Baroque, Handel and Haydn Society, and Music from Aston Magna. On modern trombone, he has performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, and as backup with Aretha Franklin. He is the founder of the Apollo Brass, which specialized in bringing historical performance know-how to the modern brass quartet. Active as an educator, Brian maintains teaching studios in Natick and Weston, Massachusetts, and is a former faculty member at the Longy School, and the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division. Originally from Urbana, Illinois, he holds degrees from New England Conservatory, and the University of Illinois. In his spare time, Brian enjoys the outdoors, and is an avid Salsa dancer.
