Andrew Schwartz
bassoon

Andrew Schwartz discovered the bassoon at age ten after hearing Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, and from that moment on, no other instrument would do. He is one of the most sought-after musicians on historical instruments, currently serving as principal bassoonist with The Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, Philharmonia Baroque, Cantata Collective, Trinity Wall Street, and The American Classical Orchestra. He has performed with leading period ensembles including The Age of Enlightenment, Wien Akademie, and Apollo’s Fire. Solo appearances include Alice Tully Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, and Jordan Hall in Boston. His recordings include Bach’s major works with Cantata Collective and Mozart’s operas for Decca. A native of Chicago, Mr. Schwartz holds degrees from Juilliard and teaches at Longy School of Music and Oberlin’s Baroque Performance Institute. He lives in Thetford Center, Vermont with his wife, Jill Levine, their two beautiful daughters, Hannah and Lena, and their cat, Lucia.
